Staying Up When a Region Goes Down: Availability as a First-Class Property of Your Data (ENG)
We obsess over keeping data consistent and durable, but availability is just as fundamental. When a region goes dark, every second of downtime costs revenue, trust, and someone’s sleep. In this talk we show how at Redis we treat availability as a first-class property of your data and how you can deliver it at the client layer. We’ll explore MultiDBClient, a client-side approach to graceful failover across geo-replicated databases with continuous health monitoring, millisecond failover to the next healthy endpoint, in-flight command retries, and automatic fallback when the home region recovers. You’ll leave knowing how geographic failover really works and how to build apps that stay up.
